Course Description

Course: Intermediate NWS Linux System Administration

Type of Course: Residence - 5 days

Target Audience: ETs, ESAs, ITOs, and others with IT experience, who need intermediate knowledge of Linux administration as part of their assigned duties in their office. This course is not intended for inexperienced Linux users. New ESAs and ITOs take priority when nominated to attend training.

Overview: This is an INTERMEDIATE-LEVEL system administration course designed to teach Linux system administration skills to established IT professionals. The knowledge and skills acquired are applicable to AWIPS, NEXRAD, and standalone Linux workstations and servers within the NWS.

Objective: Upon successful completion of this course, students will have an intermediate understanding of managing and troubleshooting Linux systems within the NWS IT environment. This course includes special emphasis on NWS IT security configuration within the Linux environment.

Required Prerequisites:

  • CLC Course: LX0-103 Devices and Filesystems
  • CLC Course: LX0-103 Installation and Package Management
  • NWSTC Residence Course: Introduction to NWS Linux

Note: Completion of this prerequisite is mandatory. Students will not be permitted to attend the course without completing the prerequisite.
