A National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office (WFO) product issued when either a severe thunderstorm is indicated by radar or a spotter reports a thunderstorm producing hail one inch or larger in diameter and/or winds equal or exceed 58 miles an hour. They are usually issued for a duration of 30 minutes to one hour. Lightning frequency is not a criteria for issuing a severe thunderstorm warning.
Severe weather statements (SVS) provide the public and emergency managers with updated information for specific severe thunderstorm (SVR) and tornado (TOR) Warnings. Updated information includes reports of observed severe weather. They also inform the public, media, and emergency managers when all or portions of a warning have been canceled or have expired.

VTEC will help allow automated dissemination of critical weather information through through technologies such as paging systems and television message crawl systems.
WEA is a public safety system that allows customers who own compatible mobile devices to receive geographically targeted, text-like messages alerting them of imminent threats to safety in their area.
